Anna McGrath is a film writer and director based in Melbourne, Australia.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Melbourne (1996), Anna had forays into the worlds of advertising in London and opera in Melbourne. She then dedicated herself to three years of crewing on film and TV productions in Melbourne before completing her Masters in Film Narrative (2008) at the School of Film & TV, Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne.

Anna directing - Mandarin PeelShe has written and directed four short films; The Waltz (07), Small Change (07), Swings and Roundabouts (08) and Mandarin Peel (09). Her films have screened at over 60 festivals worldwide and garnered a number of awards and accolades including prizes at Tribeca Film Festival, Palm Springs Short Film Festival, Angelus Student Film Festival and a nomination for Best Achievement in Direction by the Australian Director’s Guild.
With the circulation of Anna’s film Mandarin Peel commencing on the international film festival circuit in 2009, Anna had three of her short films in festival circulation simultaneously.

Anna has recently participated as a juror for the Young Actor Award at the 2013 AACTA awards (Australia’s Oscars), worked as an assessor for the VCA School of Film and TV and was selected as one of 350 attendees from 3900 applicants to attend the 2011 Berlinale Talent Campus.
Anna recently directed a short doco The Gay Agenda (13) and is in post-production with her latest directing endeavour, the short film This is Mina (13).
She has been chosen to participate in Screen Australia’s upcoming “Heroine’s Journey – Helen Jacey” workshop with her feature project currently in development.
