Chinonye Chukwu’s “Clemency” wins this year’s Sundance Grand Jury Prize for Dramatic Film

Every year we wonder, which film will be the “ONE?” And this year’s Sundance Grand Jury Prize for dramatic film went to Chinonye Chukwu’s “Clemency,” a drama starring Alfre Woodard as a prison warden agonizing over capital punishment. I was honored to moderate an extended QA of this film at the Festival with Chinonye and producer Bronwyn Cornelius. Both Chinonye and Bronwyn also joined us for a Windrider Forum session and QA with the uber talented Craig Detweiler moderating a deep dive into the subject matter. This is independent film at its best, with Oscar worthy acting by Woodard, embodying a strong female protagonist, and Chukwu as both writer and director should create Oscar buzz as well. And producer props to Bronwyn Cornelius for being the CEO of this journey. Brava ladies!!!!
Important and Windy film friends. Stay tuned.
