Joey Jones, Director of “Little Red Plane”
Joey originally hails from Ohio, where he received a BA in Architecture from The Ohio State University. After realizing his true passion for storytelling, he moved to Pasadena, CA to study at Art Center College of Design where he studied animation and co-directed and produced Little Red Plane.
LRP has screened in over 50 international film and animation festivals in over sixteen different countries and garnered over two dozen awards including an Audience Impact Award at the Angelus Film Festival, Student Emmy, First Place Short Animation from the London Effects and Animation Festival, and a Jimmy Stewart Memorial Award from the Heartland Film Festival. LRP was also screened during the 2003 Cannes Film Festival as a part of the Kodak Emerging Filmmaker Showcase.
Before graduating from Art Center, Joey received a nine-month entrepreneurial fellowship from the National Science Foundation in conjunction with the California Institute of Technology in 2001. This grant studied commercial applications for technologies developed at Caltech’s Vision Lab, which utilized motion capture for real time game engines.
Immediately after graduating from Art Center, Joey co-founded Shadedbox, an animation studio specializing in broadcast commercials, games cinematics, and interactive media in 2001. As the studio’s executive producer and director till 2012, Joey led a team of 20+ computer animators, designers, and creatives execute a wide range of animated content for clients such as Disney TV Animation, Disney Interactive, Sony Computer Entertainment of America, Mattel, Toyota Motor Corp, ABC Family, and Paramount Pictures to name a few.
Currently, Joey is V.P. of Animation and Motion at 42 Entertainment, an agency that produces immersive transmedia marketing campaigns, which merge game theory and storytelling.
Since 1999, Joey has lectured as a part-time faculty member at Art Center within the departments of Illustration, Graduate Industrial Design, Media Design, and Entertainment Arts. He currently lives in Pasadena with his wife Mara, and 2 young children, Jasper and Avé.
